OVERCOME (2020) was written in an attempt to encapsulate the feelings of victory. No matter the degree of success, this feeling is something that we have all experienced. I wanted the sounds of determination, resilience, and most importantly, joy to be prominently featured. From dancing melodies, to dark and shadowy moments of uncertainty, the common theme throughout is the strong desire to overcome. This duet is sparsely orchestrated in order to create a more intimate experience with the audience. While the marimba part is prominently featured, the percussion accompanies and assists in taking listeners through a relatable journey with unique tones and timbres.
